** Howard Hughes's HK-1 Spruce Goose - 1:200 - Minicraft
1/200 scale Minicraft injection-molded plastic model (kit # 11607) of the Hughes HK-1 Spruce Goose - the world's largest land-plane. Nick-named the "Spruce Goose" by the media for its all plywood construction, the HK-1 is the largest airplane ever to fly. Designed to carry 700 combat troops across the Atlantic, the aircraft first flew on 02 November 1949. With Howard Hughes at the controls for a taxi test, he advanced the eight throttles and took off for a one mile flight across the Long Beach harbor - the aircraft's only flight. For the next 35 years, the Spruce Goose was hidden from public view in a locked hanger at Hughes Aircraft factory in Culver City, CA. Saved from destruction by aviation enthusiasts, the aircraft is now in McMinnville, OR. awaiting the construction of a new museum which will house the plane. The kit box is in new condition & parts are still sealed in a plastic bag inside the box. The kit makes a model about 13 inches long with a wing-span of about 19 inches
