Developed as an observation/med-evac chopper, the Raven's primary mission was changed to that of a piston-engined training chopper (I got my chopper training at Ft. Wolters, TX, summer of 1960, in the H-23D). This kit is made by Special Hobby, and includes decals for US Navy and 2 US Army units, plus excellent cast resin detail parts. CM72001	$19.95	HH-53C Jolly Green Giant helicopter - 1:72 - Italeri** 1/72 scale model of the Sikorsky HH-53C "Jolly Green Giant" air-sea rescue aircraft used by the USAF. This helicopter was equipped with in-flight refueling, extra fuel tanks and defense armament in order to operate behind enemy lines during the Vietnam War. This kit is made by Italeri (kit #035), and includes decals for the USAF 37th ARRS, Phu Cat, RVN in 1971, and the Israeli Air Force. CM72004	$79.95	North American AJ-2 Savage - 1:72 - Mach 2** 1/72 scale model of the North American AJ-2 "Savage" USN carrier-borne attack bomber. The AJ-2 was powered by two P&W R-2800 piston engines and one Allison J33 turbojet in the rear fuselage. It first flew in May 1949; production totaled 140 aircraft of all models and it remained operational until 1959. The AJ-2 was a large composite-powered carrier-borne attack bomber capable of carrying atomic bombs. The AJ-2, powered by two piston engines and one jet engine mounted in the aft fuselage, had a max level speed of 471 mph. CM72012	$14.95	Bell XP-77 - 1:72 - Special Hobby** 1/72 scale model of the Bell XP-77. The Bell XP-77 was developed to save metal by making the fighter from wood. The XP-77 weighed only 3700 pounds empty but because of a lack of a suitable turbo-charger, could only fly 270 mph to a range of 550 miles. Her maiden flight took place on 01 April 1944, but then production was cancelled. This kit is made by Special Hobby (kit 72012). The kit is injection-molded with some resin super-detail parts, is new, unassembled, in the original box which is in good shape and the parts are still in the factory sealed plastic bag. CM72013	$19.95	Curtiss Condor - 1:81 - Glencoe Models** 1/81 scale model of the last bi-plane airliner built -- the Curtiss Condor! NEWLY RE-RELEASED Glencoe Models kit! First flying on 30 January 1930, 45 of the aircraft were built. Eastern Airlines received the first Condor with American Airlines receiving the second one in April 1930. The Condor proved to be a capable and reliable aircraft, but, unfortunately, it was built at the same time as the revolutionary Douglas DC-1. Condor production lasted only 4 years but it was assured a place in history due to the service rendered during Admiral Byrd's 1933-35 trip to Antartica. The AT-9 was all-metal, low-winged, twin-engined with retractable landing gear and was powered by two Lycoming R-680-9 engines giving it a max airspeed of 290 mph -- 791 AT-9's were built. CM72020	$35.45 out of stock	Douglas X-3 Stiletto - 1:72 - Planet Models** 1/72 scale limited edition resin kit of the Douglas X-3 Stiletto by Planet Models of the Czech Republic. This kit makes a beautifully detailed model -- it is a resin kit for more advanced modelers. The Douglas X-3 "Stiletto" was built to investigate the design of an aircraft suitable for sustained supersonic speeds. The X-3 was intended for sustained flight research above Mach 2, but was hampered by use of under-powered Westinghouse J34 turbojet engines -- which could not power the aircraft past Mach 1 in level flight. The principle contribution of the X-3 was its data on inertial coupling (roll divergence)-a tendency to diverge from the intended flight path. The X-3's first flight was in October 1952 with Douglas test pilot Bill Bridgeman in the cockpit. Originally designed as an all-metal cargo glider, the glider version was modified by the addition of two P & W radial engines. The C-123 served in many roles-from cargo to "Ranch-hand" aerial spraying missions. The STOL capabilities (1500 feet or less) made it very valuable for general use in the Vietnam conflict. The C-123 had a wingspan of 110'- 0", a length of 75'-09" and a top speed of 245 mph. Ordered by the US Navy in 1936, the "Mariner" flew for the first time in February 1939 and was ordered in quantities in 1941. The V-stabilizer, twin rudders and "gull" wings make the PBM-5 look unique. CM72037	$16.95	North American F-107A Ultra Sabre - 1:72 - Trumpeter** 1/72 scale model of North American's USAF XF-107 experimental fighter aircraft-the kit is made by Trumpeter of China. The F-107 was to be a development of the highly successful F-100 fighter, but design problems eventually required a completely new aircraft. The first F-107A (serial number 55-5118) took off on its maiden flight on September 10, 1956 at Edwards AFB, with NAA test pilot Bob Baker at the controls. It went supersonic on its first flight, although there was some minor damage upon landing when the drag chute malfunctioned the aircraft was quickly repaired and flew again three days later. The F-107 found itself in direct competition with the Republic F-105 Thunderchief for production orders. In March 1957, the USAF decided to go with the F-105, and the F-107 was relegated to aerodynamic testing duties. The first and third F-107As were turned over to NACA for high speed flight testing work. This make a medium sized model with a wing-span of 6-1/4 inches and a fuselage length of 7 inches. CM72057	$27.50 out of stock	Bell XL-39-1/2 research aircraft - 1:72 - CzechMaster** VERY RARE CzechMaster 1/72 scale cast resin model of the Bell XL-39 research aircraft. The XL-39 was built to test the "swept wing" design in near-sonic flight. The US Navy was given the test mission and they chose modified P-39 aircraft as the test vehicle. The L-39 used a 3-bladed prop and sharply swept-back (35 degree angle) wings on a standard P-39 fuselage. Several modifications to the wings and tail surfaces were made during the test which proved the "swept-wing" concept to be valid and successful. This kit is long out of production but in a like new condition. It is a bagged model cast in resin with excellent cast resin detail parts and a clear vacuformed canopy. No decals are provided. CM72059	$22.95	Curtiss XP-56 Black Bullet-v.1 - 1:72 - MPM 1/72 plastic scale model of the Northrop flying wing fighter aircraft, the XP-56 - version 1 with short upper tail-piece. The XP-56 was built for the R-40C un-conventional fighter design competition - 2 prototype aircraft were built. Powered by a R-2800-29 engine turning dual contra-rotating props, the aircraft had wingspan was 42' 06" with a length of 27' 06" and original 1942 design speed estimates of a top speed of 465 mph at 25,000 ft altitude. Because of engine cooling problems, actual flight performance was less than other fighter aircraft of the late WW II time-frame - consequently, the program was eventually cancelled. Aircraft #2 is stored at the Smithsonian. This kit makes a medium-sized model with a 7 inch wingspan and a length of 5 inches. The model is injection -molded with a clear canopy and resin super-detail parts - by MPM-kit # 72098 - is in the original box - parts are in a factory sealed bag - decals are as shown.
